Joanne Fischlin leads the Legal and Government Affairs team at Microsoft Gulf, helping companies and governments on their digital transformation journey. Her team and her engage regularly with customers, partners and regulators to raise the awareness of key stakeholders on privacy, security and ethics best practices when adopting new technologies such as the cloud and AI.  

Joanne is admitted to the Geneva Bar and during her career, she held various senior legal management positions in different industries incl. Retail, Manufacturing and Financial Services, advised on a large number of opportunities across EMEA, India and LATAM and has severed on several boards.

Dr. Maha Saadeh received her PhD degree in computer science from The University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, 2018. She worked as adjunct lecturer in the Computer Science Department, The University of Jordan. She is currently working as a lecturer in the School of Science and Technology, Computer Engineering and Informatics Department, Middlesex University Dubai, UAE. Dr. Saadeh has experience in teaching artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and data science for undergraduate and postgraduate students. 

She is a member of the ROBOTECHx Lab under Middlesex University Centre for Innovation in Human Experience. She has a number of publications in different reputable international journals and conferences. Her research interests are artificial intelligence and robotics, machine learning, inference systems, cloud and fog computing, information and network security, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Niall Roche

Head of Distributed Systems Engineering at Mishcon de Reya LLP & Senior Teaching Fellow at UCL School of Management

Niall is the CTO-in-Residence at the UCL School of Management, teaching in data science, software & data engineering and distributed ledger technologies/blockchain.

Previously the Lead Technologist for Innovation Entrepreneurship in UCL Engineering, he then entered the world of Legal Tech at Mishcon de Reya, where he is passionate about developing disruptive technology in the legal domain. Working in the areas of Data Science and DLT/Blockchain, he helped to deploy the first proof-of-concept property transaction using DLT with the UK Land Registry. As an active member of the Accord Project, an open source Legal Smart Contract project, he has explored the use of legal contract automation in the areas of Real Estate and making contracts adaptive to events such as Covid-19.

Working initially as a Software Engineer and Project Manager specialising in mobile and telecoms technologies, he has acquired over 15 years experience in developing web, mobile applications. Over the last 5 years Niall has broadened into developing IoT, DLT and Data Science solutions in a number of domains.

With a long-standing passion for mentorship, Niall has supported a number of accelerators, incubators and innovation programmes and is an advisor to startups in a range of sectors.

Since 2003, Niall has worked in, and with, startup companies at various stages of growth. Niall was part of a UCL initiative, that helped over 100 London based startups to validate and improve their digital products by using UCL students to test their mobile apps, using a private App Store, App Lab.

Shak is an accomplished executive with over twenty years of experience in delivering complex technology and business solutions. He has worked extensively in the regulatory and technology segments, having scoped, mobilised and delivered programmes across regulatory requirements spanning some of the most critical changes over the past decade, including MiFID, Market Abuse, AML, EMIR and GDPR. An avid entrepreneur, Shak is leading numerous ongoing tech ventures and also acts as an advisor and consultant for numerous start-ups from several global jurisdictions. He has worked on complex change programmes across front office, operations and technology impacting both the financial and legal industries.

Shak has been particularly active in the implementation and awareness of changes in the legal and regulatory markets, supporting global clients, delivering effective change by ensuring that legacy technology and operating models are replaced with innovative solutions.

Years of responsibilities and a breadth of experience and excellence gained from being a senior practitioner, Shak has an unrivalled understanding of technology, from solution design to execution and deployment, putting him on the front line of innovation across the legal and regulatory domains.

Shak possesses a proven track record in roles that demand rigor, a high level of drive and dedication .
